I like to believe I found this internship by chance, but got this internship by fate. It was towards the end of the semester when I spotted a small booth in the Hospitality Learning Center’s hallway. I realized that I was getting closer and closer towards my graduation date and had not yet found an internship. As I was walking towards the booth, I spotted Jake Kugler, whom I have met several times previously at other career fairs, and several other Sage Hospitality employees.

I would like to introduce all of the key players in my internship: Starting with Amy Ballard. Amy was the first person I met at The Crawford Hotel. My first impression of her was nearly perfect; I thought to myself if everyone at Sage Hospitality was this nice, I would never want to leave this company! Amy gave me my first in-person interview and it was not nearly as intense as I imagined. Who would have thought I would walk out of an interview relaxed?!

During my shadowing with Stephanie, the Executive Housekeeper at The Crawford Hotel, I was able to experience a day like no other. I was able to see how the housekeeping department operates and I got a chance to work with a couple of individuals and experience part of their tasks for the day. I was able to shadow Judy, the Housekeeping Inspector, and inspect the rooms that were for due-out. From Judy I have learned that every once in a while guests are still in their rooms when they were supposed to be due for check-out. When that happens, she usually pages the Front Desk agents so they can inform the guests of the next procedure.

This week was a particularly busy one for me. I worked a full schedule at my internship and continued with my full time university schedule, took two mid-terms, and conducted one of the biggest events of my student organization this semester. With all that being done, I did happen to learn of a few new happenings within the hotel. What drew my attention as I walked into the lobby one morning was the beautiful cupcake set up that was presented for the guest.

I started my journey with Sage in August of this year. I was looking for a career change and had been going to school at Metropolitan State University of Denver working towards a degree in hospitality. I was previously working for University of Colorado Hospital doing medical research.
